Training/Workshop Kubernetes
Containers are today the standard way to run applications. When Docker alone is no longer enough and you want to run applications more reliably, with automatic restarts, easy updates and a unified way of deployment, the logical next step is Kubernetes.
Kubernetes does not have to mean an expensive cloud cluster or a team of specialists. For many companies and projects, a single-node Kubernetes on your own server or VPS is fully sufficient, and this training focuses on exactly such a practical deployment.
Primary goal of the training
After the training you will be able to install, run and use a single-node Kubernetes on your own and deploy your own applications to it. You will try everything in practice on your own server or virtual machine, so you will leave the training with a working environment and a procedure you can use right away.
I am able to conduct training online in the form of a video consultation.
At the training you will learn:
What Kubernetes is, what it is used for, how it works and when it is worth deploying. You will learn to install a single-node cluster, manage it and deploy applications to it, from a simple website to an application with a database.
Training syllabus:
- What Kubernetes is and when it pays off compared to Docker Compose
- Kubernetes architecture: control plane, node, API server, etcd, kubelet, container runtime
- Distributions suitable for a single node: k3s, MicroK8s, kubeadm and how to choose
- Preparing a Linux server (VPS or virtual machine) and installing single-node Kubernetes
- The kubectl tool, kubeconfig and remote access to the cluster
- Namespaces and organizing applications in the cluster
- Pod, Deployment, ReplicaSet and declarative YAML manifests
- Service and exposing an application on the network
- Ingress, domain names and Let's Encrypt HTTPS certificates (cert-manager)
- Application configuration: ConfigMap, Secret and environment variables
- Persistent data: PersistentVolume, PersistentVolumeClaim, local storage
- Deploying your own application from an image in a container registry
- Practical example: a web application with a database
- Updating an application, rolling update and rollback
- Health checks (liveness, readiness) and resource limits (CPU, RAM)
- Logs and debugging: kubectl logs, describe, exec, events
- Security basics: firewall, API access, application isolation
- Where to go next: multi-node cluster, CI/CD, GitOps
The training does not include:
- Helm basics and installing ready-made applications
- Operation and maintenance: cluster upgrades, backup of data and configuration
Knowledge requirements:
- Basics of working with Linux
- Basics of working in the console
- Basics of working with containers, ideally after completing the Docker training
Equipment requirements:
- A computer with Linux or SSH access to a Linux server
- A server, VPS or virtual machine with Linux for installing Kubernetes (recommended at least 2 CPU, 4 GB RAM, 20 GB disk)
- Internet access
I'm interested in the Kubernetes training
If you are an individual or have a limited budget, you do not have to order a full training right away. Instead, you can book, for example, a one-off consultation or help with a specific problem, which will also be tailored exactly to your needs. Arrange a consultation
